HORST SCHICKER Snakewood Silver French Bass Bow

Meister Schicker has a variety of silhouettes in his French Model bows. He makes the most of this difficult-to-work material and crafts a traditionally shaped French bow from snakewood. Overall the weight is higher in a snakewood bow, but the balance has been thoughtfully worked by using a snakewood frog. These bows are exceptionally articulate.

This bow from 1992 is in very good condition, having only the small nicks and scratches associated with normal wear. This bow has had only one owner who took very good care of it. The camber is not terribly deep, leaving the stick with a slightly straighter line that balances the taller, Pfretzschner style frog. Typically small, tapered head, with noticeably thin ebony liner plate. New leather wrap and winding, new light brown salt and pepper hair that is thick and well spaced.

Francois LAZARE Silver French Pernambuco Bass Bow

This young bowmaker, Francois Lazare, is new to Lemur in 2009, but is well known in Italy. His bows feature the traditional Italian styling of French model bows. This particular bass bow is a good sturdy stick for orchestra play... It performed well in the spicatto. We liked the quality of Lazare's sticks very much and thought playability of this bow was excellent. Bow trial is available for this bass bow.
