Granulated Hide Glue,1/2 lb, Normal Strength |
Now we've done it - we found a reason that luthiers should have more than one hide glue. This glue is the granulated hide glue we've sold for years, is a high clarity formulation, and is the type most commonly used in violin making. It is a good compromise between gel time and eventual bond strength. That is, a longer working time when making joints between ribs and top, and a weaker bond which will hopefully fail before the top splits as the humidity drops. A1401A is the 1/2 lb bag, and A1401B is the 2 oz bag.
Check out A1408 for the new higher strength granulated hide glue.
To prepare:
1). Mix 1 tsp. glue plus 3 to 5 tsp. water in a small open-mouth glass jar.
2). Wait until all the water is absorbed (1 to 2 hours).
3). Heat jar in a pan of boiling water (double boiler).
4). Use it while it's hot and get clamp pressure on the joint before the glue gels.
