Bass Bows in this price range will exhibit markedly better control, bounce, and projection. In this price range we begin to see more variation in the individual maker's models. The pernambuco is higher quality, finer & denser grained making the bow more responsive in both starting the string, and in controlling the downbow. Variations in the frog's shape in both German and French models make it possible to better fit the frog to the player's hand as well as controlling/moving the balance point. Balance point is relative to the overall weight of the bow and there are many ways to move balance either forward (toward the tip) or toward the hand. Size and weight of the frog is one way, length of the bow behind the frog is another, adding extra wire and leather in the grip, chaning the shape of the tip, ... well, you can see this is a complex holistic paradigm. Suffice to say, we begin to see individual definition of bow characteristics in the various models the maker's present in this price range.
