NS Designs CR4 Electric Upright Bass
4 String
Highly flamed European maple, ebony, and the latest high performance composite materials are combined in a painstaking process of traditional handcrafting and precision machining. The result is a beautiful instrument with flawless performance.
The Steinberger upright bass has a minimal body allowing complete access to the high register. When I asked Ned to talk about his favorite part of the instrument, he focused on the pickup system. The BiPolar piezo bridge transduced system delivers the percussive attack and natural bowed sound of an acoustic bass with one control setting, and the smooth, long sustaining sound of a fretless bass guitar with another setting. Rather than compromise with one combined sound, the BiPolar system allows the artist to select and combine sounds that fit the application.
The instrument attaches to an adjustable floor stand, freeing the musician's arms and shoulders to finger, pluck, or bow without having to support the weight of the bass.
This instrument has the piezo pickup and comes with a case and stand.

NS Designs CR5 Electric Cello
5 String
Highly flamed European maple, ebony, and the latest high performance composite materials are combined in a painstaking process of traditional handcrafting and precision machining. The result is a beautiful instrument with flawless performance.
The neck and body are made of solid rock maple and the fingerboard is ebony, with flame maple overlay on body and peghead. Minimal body size allows direct left hand access all the way up the neck and unrestricted bow technique. High ratio tuning machines combine with the rigid neck and body design to provide especially precise and stable tuning.
The scale length is standard at 695 mm. The five string may be tuned up to the high E, A, D, G, C, or it can be tuned down with the low F. The fretless fingerboard is extended on the treble side to allow the full range of the violin and cello. Dot markers are provided for tuning reference. Six string and four string models are also available. The six string may be tuned in fifths like a cello with a low F and high E, or in fourths like a bass (E A D G C F, low to high).
The NS Cello features the exclusive Polar transducer system. The pick-up enhances both the bowed and pizzicato response by allowing the player to select the direction of string polarization (vibration in either the lateral or vertical direction). The lateral mode offers the characteristic acoustic cello tone, with its rich bowed response and percussive attack. The vertical mode offers the sustained sound characteristic of the lute and guitar. A selector switch allows the player to choose between them, or mix the two modes together. Active bass and treble EQ extend tonal range and control.
The cello is available with three interchangeable support systems. The conventional end pin configuration has the essential contact points and feel of an acoustic cello. The tripod stand provides full support for the cello, at just about any angle and height, for use seated, on a stool, and standing. The shoulder strap system, which fits over the left shoulder like a guitar, allows the player full mobility.
This instrument comes with a case and stand.
