Lemur's Full Service Repair Shop does an excellent job of refurbishing these instruments to enhance playability and to address the overall health of the instrument.
Handmade by George Borun, a southern California instrument builder. Beautiful woods are used throughout; note the flamed back and sides. A carved button on the heel of the neck features the maker's initials, GAB. This artist's research into violin making led him to a more "English" styling. The instrument has a very good sound, with a deep, robust lower register, a clear mid- range, and a sweet, singing upper register to boot.
We recently ran this bass thru the workshop to fine-tune its sound and playability. It's in tip-top good shape, with excellent Deep dark robust tones.

Kai Arvi, renowned Canadian Bassmaker is now stocking his basses on the West Coast at Lemur Music. This represents the gold standard in Arvi's work. Built for orchestra play with an extension fingerboard (Kai Arvi original). This particular bass was a hard working bass for more than 20 years in a Utah symphony orchestra. It will anchor just about any section. We put it through Lemur's full setup process and it truly plays like butter now. Plus it's fully aged and opened up to its full potential. The bass is in excellent condition, well cared for during its two decades in the dryer Western climate of Utah. It's a 7/8 size bass, violin corners, dark brown color.
No kidding -- "Big Boomer" says it all. The sound is loud, with a very solid fundamental. Great low end to carry any section. Bass can be used with no amp on trio gigs. The details: Early 1900's Czeck/German bass with outer linings. No label. Violin corners, deep ribs, long deep C-Bout. Color is Dark amber- light brown color. Due to its age the varnish has a substantial patina. Lovely, really. Yes, it is a Large 7/8 size bass, 43" SPL, but you get a big, boomin, great low- end response, primarily used as a pizz/jazz bass, recording bass. Overall in good health, in good repair. What a beauty this unusual Bohemian styled bass is. Coming to us from Joseph Bohmann Chicago (early 1900's) this luthier's work is just wonderful. We label it a 7/8 size bass because of the expansive air in the box. It's a 43" scale with wide ribs and a nicely vaulted back. This Hybrid has gorgeous detailing - double outer linings, a truly interesting purfelled back featuring burled veneer, a nicely graduated top, fancy scroll with extra wide volute, lovely old machines. Its sheer size offers extra potential for loud, boomy volume, and a deep fundamental. If you are looking for something special, please consider this rare bass. We had a chance to make a side-by-side comparison with a Prescott bass the other day. Wow! There's no question about it. This 4/4 bass is a ringer for the real deal. The upside for you is it's in great condition, with only a few cosmetic nicks in the light, golden brown finish. Sloan machines really carry their share of the load on this bass. Busseto corners, no exterior linings, really big-deep fundamental. Please call 800-246-2277 for further information about getting your hands on this big orchestra bass for a very reasonable price.
