Lemur's Full Service Repair Shop does an excellent job of refurbishing these instruments to enhance playability and to address the overall health of the instrument.
Handmade by George Borun, a southern California instrument builder. Beautiful woods are used throughout; note the flamed back and sides. A carved button on the heel of the neck features the maker's initials, GAB. This artist's research into violin making led him to a more "English" styling. The instrument has a very good sound, with a deep, robust lower register, a clear mid- range, and a sweet, singing upper register to boot.
We recently ran this bass thru the workshop to fine-tune its sound and playability. It's in tip-top good shape, with excellent Deep dark robust tones.
Lush sounding bass from contemporary Italian maker Orlandini, 1976. Violin form with lovely curved, fancy corners. Golden brown color with heavy gold highlights. Deep rib at neck for extra volume on top. Big fat jazz sound played for 40 years by well-known Italian jazz star. Used for many years of recordings and live performances. Deep fundamental, clear voicings in the mid-range. Very playable 41" scale. Please click on title to see extra pictures and video.

G.A. Pfretzschner Bass, 7/8 size, Flatback Bass, Gamba Form
Labeled G.A. Pfretzschner, handmade in Markneukirchen, Germany c1910.
Beautiful full-grained spruce top, maple back & sides.
We re-furbished the finish on this gorgeous old flatback when we moved her to the Berkeley Shop, so the intense, bright, golden undertones are really shining through the red-brown varnish. This Bass is a 7/8 size Gamba, Flatback, with a perfectly placed kerf, also still intact and in good repair. It’s been played as an orchestra bass for the last 100 years, and has developed the deep, dark, robust fundamental that you need to stand out in the section. The flatback makes for ‘up-close” access with the sloped shoulders contributing to the ease of play. The longer C-bout affords plenty of bow arm. We have re-worked the fingerboard for a smooth touch and tuned the bass accordingly. The overall health of the bass is quite good.Notice the f-holes are still nice and flat. Some rib cracks were repaired two decades ago and are stable.Custom Gig Bag included.
Please call 800-246-2277 for more information. We will happily customize this bass to your individual playing preferences.
E.M. Pöllmann Bass Verona Model Gamba Form 3/4 size
Labeled 657 Anno 1976.Handmade in Mittenwald, Germany
Ornamental carving back, front, and ribs.
The original light amber varnished has aged to a lovely, dark golden amber. In the shadow it appears a bit reddish.
This bass is in excellent health, no major repairs.Edges are clean for the most part, varnish is intact with only a few small dents and dings, as would be expected with a 40+ year old bass.Highly flamed maple back and sides, typical Pollmann scraped spruce top reveals the "years" nicely.Machines are older nickel chrome in good working condition.
This bass has the sloped shoulders typical of Verona Model. It would be a very easy playing bass for a smaller player, who might want a more compact Pollmann bass. The sound is big and clear due to the generously vaulted top and back, and standard Pollmann 9.25" lower bout ribs.
