Lemur's Full Service Repair Shop does an excellent job of refurbishing these instruments to enhance playability and to address the overall health of the instrument.
Handmade by George Borun, a southern California instrument builder. Beautiful woods are used throughout; note the flamed back and sides. A carved button on the heel of the neck features the maker's initials, GAB. This artist's research into violin making led him to a more "English" styling. The instrument has a very good sound, with a deep, robust lower register, a clear mid- range, and a sweet, singing upper register to boot.
We recently ran this bass thru the workshop to fine-tune its sound and playability. It's in tip-top good shape, with excellent Deep dark robust tones.
Lush sounding bass from contemporary Italian maker Orlandini, 1976. Violin form with lovely curved, fancy corners. Golden brown color with heavy gold highlights. What a sweet deal we have on this bass now. Labeled "Knilling Prague" this bass was made in Gamba shape, light golden brown, external linings. Smallish 3/4 size, in very good condition. Restoration from Daugherty Violin Shop. You know, it's a bit on the plain side, but the sound is very solid, and we've put a very competitive price on this bass. This is a great "move up" bass for a student. Please call 800-246-2277 for more information. We will make our customized All-Pro Setup on this bass for your individual playing preferences.
Oceana is a ¾ bass with a 41” string length, very playable. The entire bass is made from a beautifully fine grained poplar stained gold and green, with a lacquered finish. There is a rosewood fingerboard, rosewood purfling, and trim accents. The tailpiece is carved from ultra-light curly boxwood into an ocean/shell motif. A most unusual nautilus shell scroll caps the peg box. The keys are custom made from brass in the ocean motifwhich also carries over to the hand cut f-holes, and specially designed bridge. Rosewood hand holds, like the original corner less basses, are mounted in rosewood. Please click on the tile above to learn more about this bass and her maker.

Labeled G.A. Pfretzschner, handmade in Markneukirchen, Germany c1910.
Beautiful full-grained spruce top, maple back & sides.
We re-furbished the finish on this gorgeous old flatback when we moved her to the Berkeley Shop, so the intense, bright, golden undertones are really shining through the red-brown varnish. This Bass is a 7/8 size Gamba, Flatback, with a perfectly placed kerf, also still intact and in good repair. It’s been played as an orchestra bass for the last 100 years, and has developed the deep, dark, robust fundamental that you need to stand out in the section. The flatback makes for ‘up-close” access with the sloped shoulders contributing to the ease of play. The longer C-bout affords plenty of bow arm. We have re-worked the fingerboard for a smooth touch and tuned the bass accordingly. The overall health of the bass is quite good.Notice the f-holes are still nice and flat. Some rib cracks were repaired two decades ago and are stable.Custom Gig Bag included.

E.M. Pöllmann Bass Verona Model Gamba Form 3/4 size
Labeled 657 Anno 1976.Handmade in Mittenwald, Germany
Ornamental carving back, front, and ribs.
The original light amber varnished has aged to a lovely, dark golden amber. In the shadow it appears a bit reddish.
This bass is in excellent health, no major repairs.Edges are clean for the most part, varnish is intact with only a few small dents and dings, as would be expected with a 40+ year old bass.Highly flamed maple back and sides, typical Pollmann scraped spruce top reveals the "years" nicely.Machines are older nickel chrome in good working condition but looking a bit tired.
This bass has the sloped shoulders typical of Verona Model. It would be a very easy playing bass for a smaller player, who might want a more compact Pollmann bass. The sound is big and clear due to the generously vaulted top and back, and standard Pollmann 9.25" lower bout ribs.
E. Wilfer Prague® Model 7/8 sized double bass is a full-bodied orchestra bass with a rich tone, a deep fundamental, and pleasing amount of volume. The violin form is well proportioned with easy access across the (slightly droopy) shoulders and plenty of bow room in the longer waist. Using a smaller 7/8 pattern makes a nice orchestra sized bass that is easy to get around on.Note the 41” SPL. Lemur Music has long insisted that Wilfer make basses no more than 42” to accommodate a greater range of players.Prague differs from Arco-Boss being a bit smaller but having a more lyrical sounding graduation of the top plus the new bass bar configuration. Please click thru to see the video.... thank you. Beautiful full-grained spruce top, maple back & sides.
Dark red-brown with trademark golden undertones in this fine finish.Hand rubbed to perfection and carefully maintained over the past 18 years. This bass has had only one owner and was very well loved.
This Bass is a 5-string model and has a huge lower bout at 30.”The shoulders slope away for very reasonable access and a 42.5” SPL (yes! It’s true) makes this beast very playable indeed. The massive amount of ‘air in the box’ delivers unprecedented projection and volume.
