Lemur's Full Service Repair Shop does an excellent job of refurbishing these instruments to enhance playability and to address the overall health of the instrument.
Handmade by George Borun, a southern California instrument builder. Beautiful woods are used throughout; note the flamed back and sides. A carved button on the heel of the neck features the maker's initials, GAB. This artist's research into violin making led him to a more "English" styling. The instrument has a very good sound, with a deep, robust lower register, a clear mid- range, and a sweet, singing upper register to boot.
We recently ran this bass thru the workshop to fine-tune its sound and playability. It's in tip-top good shape, with excellent Deep dark robust tones.
E.M. Pollmann double bass, custom built for Jerry Buffa, owner Lemur Music, in 1997. Busseto shape, 7/8 body with string playing length of 40.5 inches. Very easy to play. Incredible fundamental, with exceptionally clear mid-range. Impeccable condition. Nicely aged dark amber color. Top table wood was 80 years old when the bass was made. Custom brass keys, now retired pattern. Please click thru to see additional images and to learn more.
We've taken this well-played in bass to a new level by refurbishing it a bit. New Bridge, Endpin, reshaped fingerboard, and the All-Pro Lemur Setup for maximum playability. We rate this one A+. Gamba Form bass, upgraded model, endicia "Emanuel Wilfer" circa 1978. Light red-brown color. Extra nice spruce top. Easy playabililty with 42" scale - an excellent choice for a "move-up student." Right now this bass has Spirocore Mediums on it for jazz play. But we think it could go either way with a customized setup for its next owner. Please click on title above for more pictures.

What a sweet deal we have on this bass now. Labeled "Knilling Prague" this bass was made in Gamba shape, light golden brown, external linings. Smallish 3/4 size, in very good condition. Restoration from Daugherty Violin Shop. You know, it's a bit on the plain side, but the sound is very solid and we've put a very competitive price on this bass. This is a great "move up" bass for a student. Please come try it out; We think you'll be pleased with the value.
Oceana is a ¾ bass with a 41” string length, very playable. The entire bass is made from a beautifully fine grained poplar stained gold and green, with a lacquered finish. There is a rosewood fingerboard, rosewood purfelling, and trim accents. The tailpiece is carved from ultra-light curly boxwood into an ocean/shell motif. A most unusual nautilus shell scroll caps the peg box. The keys are custom made from brass in the ocean motifwhich also carries over to the hand cut f-holes, and specially designed bridge. Rosewood hand holds, like the original corner less basses, are mounted in rosewood. Please click on the tile above to learn more about this bass and her maker.
