Hand-crafted, Workshop-made Bows, Nickel Silver & Silver Quality Levels

Pernambuco Bass Bows in this price range will exhibit better quality sticks that are harder and offer better control for the advancing student.  These bows are occasionally the entry level to Silver Quality sticks. You can find some good values in this price range.

Workshop bows are made by three or more persons, each responsible for one element of bow making. They are made by hand under the masters strict supervision.  We carefully test our bows in each price range to insure each bow plays well within the price group. Each bowmaker has a range of bows that increase in both quality level and price.  We do not take each bowmakers full range; sometimes there is overlap.  Lemur makes careful selection to insure you are getting bows that are not overpriced for their quality. Our goal is to have a full selection that is not redundant.

Lemur Music also selects bows for unique modeling and playing styles.  Within our selection of bows you will find many different models, balance points & weights, bows for section work, bows for solo work, shorter or longer bows to fit each players reach, many different frogs (this can be subtle), and colors of Pernambuco woods.

Im trying to express to you how much we want to communicate with each player about their exact needs both now and in the future.  We want your bow to be the most effective tool for your play, and for that we need to talk.  This price point is where the subtleties begin to matter.  Our expert staff can guide you to an informed decision.

Thank you in advance for your patronage.  I look forward to speaking with you in the near future.  Toni Buffa 800-246-2277 or lemur@lemurmusic.com

Frog: German style handmade ebony frog, with mother of pearl slide.
Button: Smooth, slender German style ebony button.
Wrap: Black leather over nickel silver wire.
Specs: 138-140 grams (our customer's preferred and most requested weight), 71cm overall length.

Comment: For bass players who prefer an octagon pernambuco stick, AB266G is the same quality level as this round shaped bass bow. If you have no preference for round or octagon shape, please consider a bow trial of each one. The round sticks tend to be have a bit more mass so they produce a dark, rich tone, but still have easy control in the hand. The octagon sticks are noticeably slimmer, produce a clear ringing orchestral tone, and tend to be a bit more agile in the spiccato.  Compare to AB266G, or AB605G, or AB450G.  Of course, W. Seifert Bass Bows are available for In-Home, In-Studio Bow Trial. Please call 1-800-246-2277.

AB605F
OTTO DURRSCHMIDT Silver French Style Bass Bow
OTTO DURRSCHMIDT Silver French Style Bass Bow

Stick:  Darker brown color pernambuco octagon shape.

Frog:   French style ebony frog, Parisiene eye, mother of pearl slide, fully lined.

Button:  Octagon barrel divided ebony button.

Wrap:  Either Black and tan Fischbein winding or Silver wire and leather.

Specs:  Approximately 137-139 grams, overall length 71.5 cm

Comment: AB605 is a noticeable upgrade from AB600 because the bowmaker uses a better quality stick that draws well, plays louder, and is more flexible for added advantage in more advanced techniques. In addition, AB605 has a higher quality frog.
A note about the two kinds of windings these bows might have. Usage is about 50-50 with either Silver or "Fischbein." The deciding factor is weight. When Durrschmidt has an AB605 quality stick that needs little additional weight to correct balance, he uses the whale bone lapping (Fischbein). If the stick needs more weight to correctly balance the stick, he uses silver wire. Available for In-Home, In-Studio Bow Trial.  Call 800-246-2277.

Carbow carbon fiber bow French model
Carbow carbon fiber bow French model

Carbon Fiber Bass Bow made exclusively for Lemur Music from LNM Carbow, France.  Black carbon fiber stick specially weighted to balance just beyond the wrap.  Snakewood frog is ‘cantilevered’ to put more hair under the hand.  This enhances control of the stick along a greater length of the hair.  Silver barrel button is sleek and elegant.  Overall a very traditional French styled bass bow, slightly shorter in length with a wider ribbon of hair.  Tall head, deep comma, deeply cambered. (But less so than the Grunberger models). Weight around 138 grams, partially due to the weight of the Snakewood frog.  As usual, this bow is available for In-Home, In-Studio Trial.  Call 800-246-2277 to arrange one today.
