Over the years, Lemur has stocked the contemporary work of many major bass makers such as Pollmann, Wilfer, Stoll, Scaramelli, and Arvi. We have taken their 'stock' models and we have collaborated with them to create 'Lemur Exclusive' models. We base our knowledge on years of experience talking to both the Makers and Players, like yourself. It is a very exciting and interesting position to hold -- ours here at Lemur Music.
We offer telephone support for all your questions about these wonderful bass makers. Call us if you desire a custom bass. We offer advanced positioning in the production line of many makers and can deliver commissioned basses more quickly than you'd imagine.

A Classic Gamba shape, this bass is a sensible choice for university studies or jazz combo work. The wood has been carefully selected for stability and superior tone production. Milano Bass is made in a small workshop setting, with traditional bass making techniques, so you get well-made German craftsmanship at an affordable price. As with all the Stoll Basses, extra attention has been paid to the beautifully antiqued varnish. This is a lot of bass for the money.
Bosa Bass from Bjorn Stoll has a wonderfully interesting silhouette that reveals the secret to her sound. The upper bout has a strong shoulder lending width to the upper bout. The C-waist is extra long for plenty of bow arm, and the lower bout is more than ample to deliver the fundamental bass you crave. This particular bass has mighty interesting f-holes, too. New to Lemur Music in Summer 2015.

The Wilfer Conservatory ¾ sized Gamba form double bass is truly a German classic. We worked extensively with Wilfer to adjust the graduations and rib depth to enlarge the sound. A harder, matte-finished varnish helps focus tone, and careful adjustment of the string playing length make a bass that is easy to play and has plenty of projection. With our adroit setup, the Conservatory is a bass that can take you through a music major in college or a jazz concert on important stages.
The Gentleman Jazz name says it all…. Smooth, refined, strong in the mid-range, powerful in the lower register. If you have dreamed of playing piano trio gigs without an amp, this could be your bass. Violin corners, antique amber color, and medium-fancy woods make for a beautiful double bass that can really move some air, and easily move your heart. Gentleman Jazz has been our most popular Wilfer Model Bass. Our set-up experts can deliver this bass to you with the action you crave. Video presentation is available on page two.
Bjorn Stoll's DRESDEN Bass is handmade in Germany. The upper bout is small enough to promote easy access to the upper register. The lower bout is, simply stated, quite large, very full, and robust. The combination creates an outstanding combination of playability and sound, and the shape is most pleasing to the eye. Please click on the title above to see more photos and the video we made right here in our San Juan Capistrano, CA shop.
We have a bass circa 1900, labeled “copy Antonio Stradivarius, Czecho-Slovokia,” gamba corners, fully carved, curly maple back and sides, with a fine grained spruce top. --- Extra profile on scroll box and heel block indicates a higher quality instrument at manufacture; New tuning machines, endpin, and fingerboard; Bass is in very good condition. The finish is old and well-worn but consistent with age of instrument. This bass has been owned and played by a very well respected bassist in California for the past twenty years. We've nudged the price down just a tad to make her a bit more attractive. Please call for more information, 800-246-2277.
Handmade by George Borun, a southern California instrument builder. Beautiful woods are used throughout; note the flamed back and sides. A carved button on the heel of the neck features the maker's initials, GAB. This artist's research into violin making led him to a more "English" styling. The instrument has a very good sound, with a deep, robust lower register, a clear mid- range, and a sweet, singing upper register to boot. We recently ran this bass thru the workshop to fine-tune its sound and playability. It's in top form. Please click on title to see more pictures and a video.
What a beauty this unusual Bohemian styled bass is. Coming to us from Joseph Bohmann Chicago (early 1900's) this luthier's work is just wonderful. We label it a 7/8 size bass because of the expansive air in the box. It's a 43" scale with wide ribs and a nicely vaulted back. This Hybrid has gorgeous detailing - double outer linings, a truly interesting purfelled back featuring burled veneer, a nicely graduated top, fancy scroll with extra wide volute, lovely old machines. It's shear size offers extra potential for loud, boomy volume, and a deep fundamental. If you are looking for something special, please consider this rare bass. We've taken this well-played in bass to a new level by refurbishing it a bit. New Bridge, Endpin, reshaped fingerboard, and the All-Pro Lemur Setup for maximum playability. We rate this one A+. Gamba Form bass, upgraded model, endicia "Emanuel Wilfer" circa 1978. Light red-brown color. Extra nice spruce top. Easy playabililty with 42" scale - an excellent choice for a "move-up student."
