E. Wilfer Prague® Model 7/8 sized double bass is a full-bodied orchestra bass with a rich tone, a deep fundamental, and pleasing amount of volume. The violin form is well proportioned with easy access across the (slightly droopy) shoulders and plenty of bow room in the longer waist. Using a smaller 7/8 pattern makes a nice orchestra sized bass that is easy to get around on.Note the 41” SPL. Lemur Music has long insisted that Wilfer make basses no more than 42” to accommodate a greater range of players.Prague differs from Arco-Boss being a bit smaller but having a more lyrical sounding graduation of the top plus the new bass bar configuration. Please click thru to see the video.... thank you. Kai Arvi, renowned Canadian Bassmaker is now stocking his basses on the West Coast at Lemur Music. This represents the gold standard in Arvi's work. Built for orchestra play with an extension fingerboard (Kai Arvi original). This particular bass was a hard working bass for more than 20 years in a Utah symphony orchestra. It will anchor just about any section. We put it through Lemur's full setup process and it truly plays like butter now. Plus it's fully aged and opened up to its full potential. The bass is in excellent condition, well cared for during its two decades in the dryer Western climate of Utah. It's a 7/8 size bass, violin corners, dark brown color.

E.M. Pollmann double bass, custom built for Jerry Buffa, owner Lemur Music, in 1997. Busseto shape, 7/8 body with string playing length of 40.5 inches. Very easy to play. Incredible fundamental, with exceptionally clear mid-range. Impeccable condition. Nicely aged dark amber color. Traditional Bavarian styling from Mike and Ralph Krahmer with extra deep ribs, highly valuted top and back; full ornaments hand carved on back, ribs, front. Top table wood was 80 years old when the bass was made. Custom brass keys, now retired pattern. Please click thru to see additional images and to learn more.
No kidding -- "Big Boomer" says it all. The sound is loud, with a very solid fundamental. Great low end to carry any section. Bass can be used with no amp on trio gigs. The details: Early 1900's Czeck/German bass with outer linings. No label. Violin corners, deep ribs, long deep C-Bout. Color is Dark amber- light brown color. Due to its age the varnish has a substantial patina. Lovely, really. Yes, it is a Large 7/8 size bass, 43" SPL, but you get a big, boomin, great low- end response, primarily used as a pizz/jazz bass, recording bass. Overall in good health, in good repair. New Lower Price for Winter 2017
Lush sounding bass from contemporary Italian maker Orlandini, 1976. Violin form with lovely curved, fancy corners. Golden brown color with heavy gold highlights. Deep rib at neck for extra volume on top. Big fat jazz sound played for 40 years by well-known Italian jazz star. Used for many years of recordings and live performances. Deep fundamental, clear voicings in the mid-range. Very playable 41" scale. Please click on title to see extra pictures and video.
Roland Wilfer has used his most well-aged wood for this antique reproduction bass. It’s a copy of a well-known Amati bass, scaled up just a dab to give maximum volume and projection.I’d like to draw your attention to the proportion of the waist (C-bout).It is long, lean, and oh so easy for your bow, whether on the upbow or down. The top is made from 80-year-old aged spruce. The back from super hard aged maple.Rubner’s antique iron machines offer a very pleasing look with all the convenience of modern machines. The antique brown oil varnish is just superb, complimenting the appearance.
The original asking price of $16,500 did not find a good home for Amati. I very much want to place this bass in the hands of a younger orchestra professional who may not have the funds to buy an older bass, but needs a bass that will carry its own weight in the section.
As always, your satisfaction with any bass you buy from Lemur Music is guaranteed. We will work diligently with you to fit the right bass to your play and your aspiring career. Please feel free to call me; I am here to answer all your questions and to guide you thru your bass buying decision.
