Bottesini (Martin) TWO CAPRICES (di Bravura & Allegretto) |
Giovanni Bottesini (1821-1889)
CAPRICIO di BRAVURA and ALLEGRETTO CAPRICCIO "Caprice a la Chopin"
Editor: Thomas Martin, 2013
Level: Advanced
Giovanni Bottesini (1821-1889)
CAPRICIO di BRAVURA and ALLEGRETTO CAPRICCIO "Caprice
a la Chopin"
Editor: Thomas Martin, 2013
Level: Advanced
As with Two Elegies and Two Melodies the two caprices are quite
different both in musical terms and technical demands.
Capriccio di Bravura, with its beautiful "Andante" introduction
and technically demanding and exciting "allegro con fuoco," goes beyond
the "piece de salon" format to join the larger scale works of the
composer. In a number of high passages, the performer must choose between pushing
the string to the side, the use of harmonics, or a mixture of both techniques.
Allegretto Capriccio, also known as "Caprice a la Chopin,"
is a classic example of a "piece de salon." Based on the popular (then
as now) Valse in C# minor, Opus 64, No.2 by Frédéric Chopin, it
is a charming composition with some very interesting use of the instrument.
