Double Bass Sheet Music Frederick Charlton Arranger FAC J.S. Bach, THREE PARTITAS
J.S. Bach, THREE PARTITAS
Nineteen total movements of some
of the most beautiful pieces ever written for an unaccompanied instrument. Ranging
in difficulty from intermediate to very advanced. Including the famous "Chaconne,"
in the first arrangement ever done in its entirety (with no "cuts").
An excerpt from Mr. Charlton's
Preface:
"Bach's violoncello suites
have become staples for the serious bassist, yet the violin pieces are too often
neglected by bass players. While the cello suites have far fewer stopped chords
than the partitas, the few chords that are in the cello suites are usually based
on fifths, sixths and sevenths, which require significant modifications in arranging
for the bass.
While the violin partitas have
similarly structured chords, they have numerous compact chords. Chords based
instead on seconds, thirds and fourths, which can be very difficult and even
impossible on the violoncello. But, because the contrabass is tuned in fourths,
these same more compact chords are very transcribe able for the bass. "
Sounding fine with orchestral
tuning, these pieces are also quite nice with solo and even "high"
solo tuning.
Gary Karr said of Mr. Charlton's
arrangement of the Partitas:
"Great work, Fred!"
